"And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature." - Mark 16:15

How to go to Heaven

1. Everyone sins in the eyes of a Holy God

'For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God' (Romans 3:23).  God says everyone is a sinner, and we all are, 'For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good and sinneth not' (Ecclesiastes 7:20).praying

When we compare ourselves to other people, we probably seem like pretty good people, and we may well be when compared to someone else, but then there is another person who seems better than us, and someone is better than them, but we all have one thing in common, no one is perfect, that is, you, me and everyone has done sin.

'But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as fithy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away' (Isaiah 64:6).

'For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all' (James 2:10). No matter how good a person you are or try to be, just one sin is enough to make you fall short when compared to the glory of God, who is perfect.  Just one sin is enough to make you as being guilty of all sins.  You, me and everyone falls short when compared to God's moral perfection. We are all guilty as charged.

2. The price we pay for our sin is to burn in Hell forever

'For the wages of sin is death...' (Romans 6:12) The payment for our sin is to die. No amount of good works or church attendance can fix this, we can't undo the sin we've already done, or the sin we've thought.  As God is eternal, so our punishment is eternal, 'And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.' (Revelation 21:8).

From the moment you have sinned, you have been separated from God, and because you are unclean, you cannot enter Heaven which is a place where 'there will be no tears, sorrow, pain or death' (Rev 21:4).  The wages of sin are death, and because there is no death in Heaven, there can be no sin in Heaven.

3. God in His love offered a solution

'For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.' (John 3:16)

Because we cannot save ourselves, God in his love for us sent his only begotten Son, Christ Jesus, who knew no sin, to pay the price for our sin, by sacrificing Himself on the cross for us.  Jesus knew no sin, so in order for us to go to Heaven, Jesus, who is God manifest in the flesh (1 Timothy 3:16) took the burden of our sins and died for us on the cross, shedding His blood that through it our sins will be cleansed, and by believing on Him, we too become spotless, 'Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool' (Isaiah 1:18).

“For He (God) hath made Him (Christ) to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him” (2 Cor. 5:21).

Jesus who knew no sin, died, shedding His blood to pay for our sins so that our sins will be washed spotless, was buried, but because He lived a life with no sin, death could not hold him, so on the third day, He was bodily risen!

4. And this is the Gospel

Jesus, who is God manifest in the flesh, died on the cross, was buried, and was bodily risen three days later, and whosoever believes on Him will have eternal life,

'In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.' 1 John 4:9

5. We are saved by believing on Jesus the Son of God

'For grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: It is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.' (Ephesians 2:8-9).

'But to him that worketh not, but believeth on Him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.' (Romans 4-5).

'Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law, for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.” (Galatians 2:16).

No amount of works on our part can save us, no matter how many good deeds we do, how much we give to charity, how many churches we attend, or how much effort we put in, none of this pleases God who sees our best works as filthy rags (Isaiah 64:6), because even one sin is enough to condemn us in they eyes of a perfect moral God, we are saved by recognising we are guilty sinners and BELIEVING on Jesus the Son of God for forgiveness of our sins!  It is faith that saves us.

Jesus said, '...Repent ye, and believe in the gospel,' (Mark 1:15).  Repent in the biblical sense comes from the word 'metanoia' which does not mean to make amends such as it may be interpreted in general conversation, it means to have a change of mind.  And what are we to have a change of mind about? From thinking we can save ourselves to realising we can't save ourselves, and from NOT believing to BELIEVING.

'Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the Gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; by which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the scriptures" (1st Corinthians 15:1-4).

The Gospel is that Jesus died on the cross for our sins, shedding his precious blood to pay for our sins, was buried, and bodily rose again three days later.

'Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live.' John 11:25

'Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.' (John 6:28-29).

6. That's it!

That's it! When we accept that we are guilty sinners who cannot save ourselves, and turn in faith to believing on Jesus the Son of God to be forgiven for our sins, so that we may have eternal life, we are instantly forgiven for our sins, past, current and future through faith in Christ Jesus.

sunriseA person cannot save himself by his works, or help Christ to save him by his works, or to help keep himself being saved by his works. This is all human effort and we are saved entirely by faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. Salvation is entirely the work of God and we must rest entirely on Jesus the Son of God to be saved.  We are saved by BELIEVING on him, and by BELIEVING alone.

God says you are saved not of works but by grace through faith, 'And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work' (Romans. 11:6).

If we could save ourselves by our own works then Christ would not have had to sacrifice Himself for us, but we can't, so we require to believe on our Saviour, who sacrificed himself for us so that we can have eternal life by resting on Him and Him alone.

God also warns us about putting our trust in human effort and not solely resting on the finished work of His Son to pay the price for our sins,

'Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.' (Matthew 7:21-23).

This is quite a sobering piece of scripture, here God is saying that many people will do many great works, by all accounts seem as holy men, religious people, performing religious ceremonies, but they will not enter into Heaven because they tried to work their way to Heaven and utterly failed, instead of believing on Jesus which is God's will.

'For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.' - John 3:16

'Jesus answered and said unto them, 'This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.' John 6:29

When you know that you are a sinner, and see Him as He is, and totally realise you cannot save yourself, and thus, you BELIEVE the Gospel, which is that Jesus who is the Son of God (God in the flesh), died on the cross, sacrificing His precious blood to pay for your sins, was buried and bodily resurrected three days later, then you are immediately saved and so you are born into the family of God!

Although we are saved by BELIEVING, some people like to express their repentance (a changing of mind) by praying to Him, much like the publican did in Luke 18:13, 'And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.', Although the words do not matter, it is believing on Him that matters, you could pray something like this,

Dear Jesus,
I admit that I am a sinner deserving of Hell. I am guilty for breaking your holy commandments. I believe that you died on the cross to pay for my sins, were buried, and bodily resurrected three days later. Please forgive me of my sins and take me to Heaven when I die. I now believe upon You alone, apart from all self-righteous works and religion, as my personal Savior. Thank you. Amen

By BELIEVING on Him as your ONLY hope for salvation, you are born again.  The first birth was of flesh, the second birth is of Spirit.

I recognise I am a guilty sinner, hopelessly failing and unworthy in front of Your mightiness, and I believe on Jesus for forgiveness of my sins.  Thank you so much Jesus for loving me, I am so grateful for your love and your forgiveness.
