Modern Day Vegans

Psalm 8:6-8, "Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet:  All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field; The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas. O LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!"

Growing Trend of Veganism

Affects on farms

A growing trend among farmers is to be subject to attacks from animal rights groups, and individuals.  Claims of 'murderers' and 'rapists' are being labelled at farmers, as if somehow animals are on the same ranking as people.

In the above video, trainee farmer Alison Waugh speaks about death threats that she and her family receive, and rightly points out the irony of death threats, coming from people who claim to be pacifists, wanting peace for animals.  What they're doing, is demonstrating a contempt towards people, elevating animals to a status above people.

Ms. Waugh then goes on to make the point,

"It's crushing when you take as much pride in your animals as we do.  I don't think they can understand, or differentiate between the fact that different animals have different purposes. We have these companion animals and we have our livestock and there is a line drawn there."

The National Pig Association claims its members "cannot sleep at night" because Save Movement members have allegedly turned up at farms and slaughterhouses at night.

The Association of Independent Meat Suppliers has met with the official National Counter Terrorism Police Operations Centre team to discuss how to respond to the movement.

If only these people devoted their time to people in the world, adults and children without familes, food, homes, those in poverty, financial poverty as well as the poverty of hopelesness and depression.

Joey Carbston, of the Save Movment, states,

"When they buy a chicken breast, that was torn off an animal that didn't want to die. We can't love animals whilst we're consuming their flesh or paying for them to go into a slaughterhouse," he says.

"Slaughterhouse workers are a product of a sick society who want to consume animal flesh."

Again we see the theme, that animals are at the same level as people.  There is nothing wrong with humane treatment of animals, but it's wrong to try to force one's beliefs, that one should not eat animals, that animals are the same as people, onto others.

In the words of a friend who had been desolate and alone, abandoned by society "Animals? Animal rights? What about people!"

You Tube Vegans

Social Media has it's share of Vegans.

Two popular vegan you tube vloggers are Harley Davidson, who goes by the pseudonym, 'Durianrider', and another who goes by two pseudonyms, being 'vegan gains' and, 'Richard Burgess'.

As well as advocating the Vegan philosophy, avoiding eating meats, giving animals equal rights to humans, they take a similar approach even going back to the vegetarian atheist Al-Ma'arri, of the 10th Century, to not have children.  Both have had a vasectomy, which is a medical operation which prevents men from fathering children.  Just like Al-Ma'am, they don't believe people should have children.  In a modern take, it is due to the new age/vegan philosophy of 'population control.'  Furthermore, they not only advocate veganism for others, but also that others should also have a vasectomy.  In a way it is similar to 'forbidding to marry', since one of the main purposes of marriage is to have children.

Shooting

Nasim Najafi Agdhamln, 39, vegan instragram, youtube vlogger, and activist arrived at YouTube headquarters on 3rd April 2018, and proceeded to shoot 3 people at random, before shooting herself. .

AghdamIn some online posts before the attack, Aghdam spoke about herself in heroic terms for surviving in a hostile world.

Motivations for the attack appear to be an anger at YouTube, which she describes as injustice, for restricting some of her videos, and removing adverts from some, effectively demonetising them.  As she stated on a post leading up to the tragic event, Adghdamin complained about a youtube video making just $0.10 from 300,00 views.

Aghdam some online posts before the attack, Aghdam spoke about herself in heroic terms for surviving in a hostile world.

“I think I am doing a great job,” she wrote in Persian on her Instagram account. “I have never fallen in love and have never got married. I have no physical and psychological diseases. But I live on a planet that is full of injustice and diseases.”

Again, with veganism, we see the avoidance of marriage, of children.

In 2009, she was named and pictured in The San Diego Union-Tribune protesting about the use of pigs in military training.  "For me, animal rights equal human rights," she told the newspaper.

Jasmine Singer, Senior Editor of VegNews said in response to the shooting, "We oew it to ourselves, and to the animals, to practice collective care".  Sadly, there's no mention of thoughts of the 3 injured people, the family of the deceased, but simply, a focus on themself and animals.

PETA

PETA, People for the Ethical treatement of Animals, make the following statement on their website,

"People who support animal rights believe that animals are not ours to use for food, clothing, entertainment, experimentation, or any other purpose and that animals deserve consideration of their best interests."

Again, it's not really about being humane to animals, not inflicting cruelty, showing respect to God's creatures, but about elevating animals to the same level as people.  In doing so, animals are elevated, and the value of people is diminished.

Here is PETA stating that vegetarianism has to be forced onto others, again confusing animals with people,

'From a moral standpoint, actions that harm others are not matters of personal choice. Murder, child abuse, and cruelty to animals are all immoral. Our society now encourages meat-eating and the cruelty of factory farming, but history teaches that society also once encouraged slavery, child labor, and many other practices now universally recognized as wrong.'

I wonder if PETA, and other similar bodies, have considered that 1) Animals would eat us and 2) Animals will eat each other.  How is it protecting the right of an animal, if one animal is allowed to live, and another is not allowed to predate.  How about the cruelty to a carnivore animal, such as a lion or a tiger, or a house cat, that is fed only vegetables?

If you were to force a pet to eat only vegetables, or to force an animal in the wild to eat only vegetables, is not leaving them alone, but interfering with their lives.

Therefore, the aim of PETA is niaive, at best.

It's decent not to mis-treat animals, but it makes no sense to prevent the consumption of them.

Growing Trend of Veganism

Veganism is on the increase.

In 2016 it commissioned research by Ipsos Mori which suggested there were at least 542,000 people - or 1.05% of the 15 and over population in England, Scotland and Wales - following a vegan diet.

Ten years before the estimated number of vegans was just 150,000.

In the last 10 years, veganism in the UK has grown over 3 and a half times. On a further analysis of the figures, 42% of all vegans are in the 15-34 age category, with only 14% being over 65.  These figures show that veganism is catching on with young people, and increasing in popularity.

Perception of veganism has changed.  According to a survey be the Vegan Society, people are more likely to admire a vegan friend, whereas 20 years ago, people would have viewed veganism as extreme, unnecessary and, 'taking it too far.'

On the internet, the core audience for social media vegans are young women, '"The core audience on YouTube engaging with vegan content are women aged 18-26, making up 36% of all engagements globally," says Denis Crushell, vice president of Europe for Tubular.'

Veganism is on the increase in society.  Vegan products are more available in supermarkets.  Vegan restaurants have increased.  The Pizza chain Pizza Express introducted 'vegan mozzarella' onto it's menu in 2017.
