Whales - Science doesn't agree

'And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.' Genesis 1:22
These beautifuI creatures can reach up to 30 metres (100 ft) long and can weigh up to 181,000 kilograms (181 tonnes). Science can't agree with how they came to be in existence.whale

Whales and Science

I was reading in the last few days, about a study involving Asst. Professor Graham Slater of the University of Chiago, about how whales are apparently a 'new' creature, or rather, their size is new;

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-40032372

Quote: 'Blue whales are the biggest animals that have ever existed on Earth but they only recently got that way .... These animals were relatively small for most of their evolutionary existence and only became the behemoths we know today in the past three million years.'

Going back a few years

Going back a few years, to 2010, we have the same Graham Slater, then, Dr Graham Slater, biologist at the UCLA stating,
Quote: 'Around 35 million years ago, when modern whales began to appear in the ocean, whale evolution ignited. Whales began as basically similar body types and evolved into everything from porpoises to blue whales over the next 5 million years,. .... Five million years is like the blink of an eye .... Those differences (great whales) were probably in place by 25 million years ago, at the latest, and for many millions of years, they have not changed very much' (source http://www.livescience.com/10672-whales-evolved-blink-eye.html)
So which one is right?  Graham slater is advising us that whales haven't changed for many millions of years, at least 25 million, then he's advising us they just appeared 2 or 3 million years ago.  Depending on the study that's used, the numbers of millions of years of evolution, and time since the last change, is all different.  The latest study, done this year, is using something known as a 'phylogenetic evolutionary model' which is described as,
'Phylogenetic evolutionary model' is the study of presumed shared DNA and appearance (ie morphological traits)
That is, by morphological traits, it means that if something looks like it might be similar, then it must be the same. To put it another way, everyone knows that a cat skull and a fox skull can look similar, but this in no way means they are related, or are at all the same!  It is really just the theory of evolution given another, somewhat complex title.  Figured that maybe the most recent study would have the most advanced method?  Turns out no, it's still basing it on the same idea of assuming something looking similar, makes it the same organism.

Another report on it, Science Daily has it in the last 2 to 3 millions years,
'...found that very large whales appeared along several branches of the family tree about 2 to 3 million years ago. ' (source: https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2017/05/170524110024.htm?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+sciencedaily%2Fplants_animals%2Fsea_life+%28Sea+Life+News+--+ScienceDaily%29)

Confused?

Yes!

The first study and report done in 2010 was by Dr Graham Slater of the UCLA, (https://www.eeb.ucla.edu/gradstudents/slater/Graham/Graham_J_Slater.html)

The second study and report done in (May) 2017 by now Assist. Professor Graham Slater, now at the Univerity of Chicago, 'Dr Pyenson is publishing the new research - conducted with Graham Slater from the University of Chicago and Jeremy Goldbogen from Stanford's Hopkins Marine Station..' (source http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-40032372)

Notice it involving the same biologist,  then Dr Graham Slater from the UCLA, now Asst. Professor Graham Slater, tenuring at the University of Chicago (http://geosci.uchicago.edu/people/graham-slater/)

I have not as yet been able to find out why his first study is now wrong and his second study should be taken as correct, or indeed, any study.

What can you believe?

I would just like to re-iterate on this, because I was so surprised when I came across it.  Dr Slater is telling us in his first study that whales evolved 25-30 million years ago, and then is telling us in his second study that whales evolved only 2-3 million years ago. He's also tellings us that whales evolved over a period of 5 million years, but then tells us they evolved over only 1 million!  These are HUGE differences!  When you have something apparently happening over 5 million years, which is meant to be a "blink of an eye" in evolutionary terms, and then to be told it whaleunderwaterhappened only over 1 million years - the "eye" hasn't even had a chance to close in order to blink! You couldn't make this up, yet it passes for 'science'!

Conclusion:
He doesn't actually know at all.

Who can be sure what will be next?

The purpose of this is not to poke holes at anyone, but rather, to show how the information is confusing, contradictory, and just wrong, and indeed, that nothing appears to be released to the press as to why it's all wrong.  What happens unfortunately is that people read the article, whether online, or in a newspaper, and it's simply accepted and passed on, and why would people doubt it?  What's promoting all this?  What of Graham Slater?  Graham Slater is likely as much a victim of this as anyone else, perhaps even more so.  He's chosen or been pushed into a belief in evolution ie a theory to replace God, and has gone on to make a career out of it, so even if he has doubts, and clearly he must realise he is being contradictory, he's now in a position where sadly his current livelihood (ie his current job) depends on him continuing with the acceptance of evolution being a 'fact', and having to continue from there, in a rock and a hard place if he ever questions why science doesn't back up that which he imagines to be science.

It's a shame for Graham Slater, as well as others involved, but let's not forget, it's also a shame for most people who simply pick up the story, and move on, without looking into such matters further.  It's taking people away from God, which is to deny them so much.

Praise God for the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Truth, which guides us in such matters and in so much more.

The Reality

The reality is, from Genesis 1:21, 'And God created great whales.....'

Great whales are indeed new, because the bible tells us that God created them during the re-modelling of the earth, ie after the time of the angels living on earth, and before mankind was created and lived on earth.

Until or if such time that science pays attention to the bible, and considers scientifically and objectively the lack of evidence for evolutionary theory, there will continue to be much confusion in such matters,

'O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called:' 1 Timothy 6:20
